I set out to transform Shephard’s Pie, a meal-of-choice for millions of people in Britain. However, I wanted convenience to be the main theme of this exercise. That’s for everything from getting the meal, pairing and getting the wine, and getting the meal ready.
So I chose the Shephard’s Pie from the M&S Gastropub range (three for £10, Mix & Match), Googled a recipe (BBC Good Food’s looked similar http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9644/nofuss-shepherds-pie), and ran a food-wine pairing using my phone’s browser on Delipair.com, all before completing my shopping.
Delipar’s wines recommendations for Shepherd’s Pie were:
How happy I was, that out of three recommended wines, red one happened to be Valpolicella Ripasso. The top four were white wines, but that’s the beauty of Delipair, which recommends red and white wines, so you can go with your preference.
I chose a Valpolicella Ripasso for my Shepherd’s Pie. Was it good? Oh yeah!
So this was simple: I just picked up a ready meal in a supermarket, Googled a similar recipe, pasted the recipe link into Delipair’s website, and bought one of the recommended wines in a nearby wine shop. Quick, simple and delicious.
